Care and Cleaning Tips

Like any investment, it is important to properly care for your possessions. Due to the nature of our products, Floorboardz® surfboard rugs experience high foot traffic. While the rugs are designed to withstand high foot traffic and prevent wear and tear, they are still susceptible to dirt and other messy mishaps.

Protection
The first step to cleaning your Floorboardz® surfboard rug is to equip your rug to repel stains before they happen. We recommend using Scotch Guard or some other fabric repellant to protect against stains and keep the rug cleaner and looking like new.

Vacuuming
Like all rugs or carpets, the easiest way to keep it clean is to vacuum regularly. By vacuuming your Floorboardz® surfboard rug on a regular basis (at least once a week) it will keep dust and soils from building up. Using a vacuum with a beater or brush bar will help to agitate the dust and dirt and bring it to the surface.

Spot Cleaning
While vacuuming regularly will protect against the buildup of dirt and dust, the buildup of oily substances still poses a problem. It is important to remove oily buildup as soon as a dull look begins to appear. An easy way to clean oil buildup is using a damp cloth or soft-hair brush with warm water and a non-bleach detergent.

Stain Removal
The key to stain removal is to do it as quickly as possible, before the fabric strands absorb it. Scoop up as much of the stain as possible with a towel or cloth. Then absorb as much of the liquid as possible with a dry cloth or paper towel by blotting. Apply warm water to the stain and blot. If the stain remains, mix warm water with a mild non-bleach detergent and let it soak for 5 minutes. Rinse the stain with warm water and blot. If the stain remains, repeat until it is clean or nearly clean. When the rug is completely dry, vacuum the area well.

Floorboardz® takes no responsibility for any damage done to rugs. We do recommend occasional steam cleaning to help preserve the life of the rug.

Machine Washing
Machine washing is only recommended for the Ripper, Vintage, or Fun Boards Collections. The lightweight material, and backing makes them ideal for machine washing.
